I found this week’s quiz to be less challenging than previous weeks.
It is interesting how each weekly quiz assists me with understanding my writing strengths and weaknesses. At the commencement of this course, I probably would have said that my understanding of punctuation and grammar is stronger than my ability to spell (without the assistance of spell-check).
This week’s reading and quiz however has proven that wrong. As I read Hicks’ (2013) Chapter on Spelling, I found myself thinking that I already know and apply most of the spelling information. I achieved a nine out of ten on the first attempt because I confused ‘principle’ with ‘principal’ then gained a ten out of ten on the second attempt.
Wouldn’t it have been interesting to take a self-evaluation quiz at the start of the semester where we identified where we thought our strengths were, then, as each quiz we take on a subject area displays our actual ability a comparison was drawn?
